Rumors speculate that “Thor: Ragnarok” is going to introduce a major female villain and a heroine.
Comic Book Movie reported that aside from Chris Hemsworth's Mjolnir-wieldingThor, Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner/Incredible Hulk will be bashing the third installment to the franchise.
Tom Hiddleston's mischievous and scheming Loki and Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif are also coming. But rumor has it that the cast will be joined by a female protagonist, as well as the series' first major female antagonist.
Birth.Movies.Death. reported that while Thor and Hulk (apparently the only two characters who won't be joining Team Captain America or Team Iron Man in “Captain America: Civil War”) make their way in a cosmic road trip, they'll be joined by the Valkyries. But besides that, this sequel might introduce the heroine Brunnhilde, a.k.a. Valkyrie.
In The Avengers comics, Valkyrie was a longtime member of The Defenders who hung out with Doctor Strange and fought with The Enchantress. Although it isn't sure yet as to what her role in the film will be, Valkyrie's intro in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might lead up to more female heroes being introduced as well.
Valkyrie was included in the list of potentials for “Thor: The Dark World,” but didn't make the final cut. Her timely intro in “Ragnarok” blends in perfectly with the rumor that a major female villain is coming, which Lainey Gossip reported as still unconfirmed as to 'the who.'
“I don’t know who the character is for sure, but there are a couple likely candidates from Asgard: Amora the Enchantress, a sorceress; or Hela, Queen of the Dead (and also Loki’s daughter but that won’t necessarily be the case if Hela does indeed get the cinematic treatment).“
Moreover, Marvel is reported to be looking for big actresses that could play that villain role, although no names have been given, except one.
“To that end, and empowered by their recent A-list success in casting ”Doctor Strange,” Marvel will pursue a big name actress for Mystery Villainess—like Cate Blanchett big.”
Not only that, as “Ragnarok” reportedly has the darkest script in the whole franchise, Marvel hired comedy director Taika Waititi (“Flight of the Conchords,” “What We Do in the Shadows”) to direct the film. Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle are writing.
Seems like this will be a real big thing to watch for.
“Thor: Ragnarok” is scheduled for release on Nov. 3, 2017.
