Following a knockout loss in the second round of the Ultimate Fighting Championship 193 in Melbourne last Sunday, Ronda Rousey is said to be recovering at a hospital.
"She was transported [to the hospital] because she got knocked out," UFC President Dana White told reporters, per E! Online. "And her lip was split in half...and they had to sew her lip."
White also told the press Rousey is "bummed out and depressed" after being defeated by Holly Holm. The latter was billed as the underdog in this fight, as previously reported on Parent Herald. However, last Sunday's arena audience saw Holm charged at Rousey with a systematic attack that eventually put the defending champion down, per Los Angeles Times.
The Washington Post reported that a rematch is inevitable and Holm is already expecting this. "Anybody who does come out with the victory should give the rematch," Holm said in the report. "That's how the sport goes and people are really going to want to see it. It'll be a totally different fight the second time around, you know. I'm ready for it."
The Wall Street Journal also reported that the rematch has been been hinted by the UFC after Holm's win, as it is in the league's reputation to draw out matches the audience will surely be watching. UFC 193 drew 56,214 of viewers in Australia and raked over $6.8 million for live viewing, per Forbes. But there's some bad news for Rousey's fans as the news outlet also reported her stunning loss and her now blemished record will have Rousey unlikely make an appearance in WrestleMania 32 in 2016. Besides, she could be doing something else by the time this event takes place. "I'm going to be in Jakarta filming my movie," she told Fox Sports in a September interview.
Rousey has been hinting she's going to take it slow after her fight with Holm even before this started. The MMA star is set to star in the "Road House" remake. The actress has done movies in the past, but this is her first lead role, according to MMA Mania.
Rousey also expressed she will be disappearing soon and many not return after several UFC fights. "I'm definitely going to let some people miss me, for sure. Believe me, there's nothing I would like to do more than disappear for a while," she told Rolling Stones. "I would like to wait until UFC 200 to fight again. I'm going to be filming [movies] in the meantime, so I'm still going to be keeping busy."
