Former Agent 007 Pierce Brosnan recently gave his comments on the latest James Bond film, as well as his praises and opinions regarding its actor Daniel Craig.
When Hit-Fix asked the Irish actor regarding the latest Bond film “Spectre,” Brosnan couldn't hide his apparent disappointment with it.
“I was looking forward to it enormously,” he said. “I thought it was too long. The story was kind of weak — it could have been condensed. It kind of went on too long. It really did.”
He added that the recent Bond films had a tendency to get some ideas from the Jason Bourne movies.
“[‘Spectre’] is neither fish nor fowl. It’s neither Bond nor Bourne. Am I in a Bond movie? Not in a Bond movie?” he said, while crediting to Craig a good get-go.
“But Daniel, in the fourth go-round, has ownership of it,” Brosnan said. “He had a nice looseness to him.”
Brosnan is remembered for playing Bond in four films, from 1995 to 2002. Having played the agent himself, he continued giving Craig praise for it.
“He’s a mighty warrior, and I think he found a great sense of himself in this one with the one-liners and a nice playfulness there,” Brosnan said. “Just get a tighter story, and he’ll have another classic.”
That "another classic" will wait. Earlier, Craig said in an interview with Time Out London that he'd rather “break glass and slash [his] wrists” than make another Bond film. Of course, this comment was subject of showbiz news feasts, but the actor clarified it after a while and said he's happy with the role.
"I couldn't be happier," Craig told Today of his role as Bond. "I've had a wonderful, wonderful time making these movies, and maybe I'll make another one. I don't know."
Brosnan defended Craig too.
“I think the guy was just fairly banjaxed by playing it,” he said, referring to the earlier comment. “By the time you finish making a Bond movie, you don't want to hear the name, see the name or have anything to do with it because you just want to go to ground.”
Brosnan seems to like Craig's Bond. “Give him another year off here, and he'll be ready to rock and roll for sure.”
