The "Fast & Furious" franchise continues to smash records at the box-office despite adversities which include that untimely death of Paul Walker before "Fast & Furious 7."
Since that unfortunate plight, there were some who believed that the "Fast & Furious" franchise would eventually fold which of course many are dreading.
The good news is that "Fast & Furious" will have at least three more films to show, starting with "Fast & Furious 8" which will be the start of a trilogy for the action-packed film oozing with car stunts and twists. All that starts on April 14, 2017.
So with that in mind, would it be the last?
Well thanks to Vin Diesel who had a good chat with Variety, such may not be the case. After the trilogy, it looks like spinoffs are in line as well though he doesn’t specifically say which characters (aside from him) will take the limelight.
So it makes one think, who among the cast would be in line for a spinoff?
How about Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s character Luke Hobbs?
Well, everyone loves the Rock and surely this will be something of interest. But that would all depend on Johnson’s relationship with Universal Pictures since his contract is on a film-by-film basis which is why Kurt Russell was suddenly inserted at Fast & Furious 7 per reports by Cinema Blend.
Speaking of prequels and spinoffs, a dig into the past of Kurt Russell’s character – Mr. Nobody – should be equally interesting since his past does seem like a mystery since entering the fray in Fast & Furious 7.
Spinoffs don’t have to be limited to the face stars of course. There are the Shaw brothers to consider as well (Owen and Deckard). Could they drop the bad guy persona and be on the good side instead? We will leave that up to the producers to decide.
How about Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) or a return by Han Seoul-Oh (Sung Kang) and Giselle Harabo (Gal Gadot) who gave fans the belief that their deaths meant the end of their characters? In the film business, there are ways to work around that.
Of course, there are other characters that could be spun off like Sean Boswell from Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (Lucas Black), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) or even Kara (Ronda Rousey) who could somehow pop-up and be part of the team.
Anything is possible at this point, but the main thing to consider is that Universal Pictures will only look at such if they sell and, of course, make money.
