Marvel's newest superhero series, "Jessica Jones," arrives on Netflix today and it is anticipated to be another show that will be well-received based on critics' reviews.
According to an account from Variety's Maureen Ryan, "Jessica Jones" is "one of the year's most distinctive new dramas." Part of the credit goes to Krysten Ritter, who portrays the titular character.
iO9 also managed to catch the first seven episodes of the series and mentioned that there's so much about the show that's worth watching.
The series, created by Melissa Rosenberg and based on the comic series titled "Alias" by Brian Michael Bendis Michael Gaydos, has a powerful team of cast members on board that is expected to bring life to the show.
As noted in a report from The Washington Post, Jessica is just like any ordinary human being, living a normal life in New York City.
The show will revolve around private investigator Jessica Jones who, although gifted with superhuman abilities, chose to retire from the superhero life and decided to run her own detective agency to provide assistance to people, Deadline noted.
The show is also revealed to mostly revolve around the story of Jessica and the villain Kilgrave, played by David Tennant, iO9 noted.
Jessica was once under the control of Kilgrave, who seem to have the power to manipulate people and make them do things against their will. The news outlet reported that much of the original story of Kilgrave and Jessica will be preserved in the series.
Meanwhile, Mike Colter and Carrie Ann-Moss from "The Matrix" also join the series playing the good guys taking Jessica's side. Colter will play Jessica's love interest, Luke Cage, in the show while Moss plays the role of an attorney who is an ally to Jessica and will help her with her cases.
As explained by TV Guide, Jessica will be on a mission to track down Kilgrave, the man who has caused her troubled past, and along the way, she forms a relationship with Luke. In the original comics, Luke is Jessica's husband, but Rosenberg's version delivers a different story on how the two met.
TV Guide also revealed that when the show opens, viewers will see Jessica taking on a case of a young woman who was abducted by Kilgrave and she needs to be the one to rescue her.
The 13-episode pilot season of "Jessica Jones" begins streaming today on Netflix.
