Chris Hemsworth seemed to have lost his buff built. Known for his muscle-bound and hammer-wielding role as Thor, the actor has dropped the pounds and left his fans and social media followers shocked at the transformation.
Chris revealed the changes to his body in an Instagram post Monday. He indicated that he actually did this when he prepared for his latest movie "In The Heart of The Sea," which will hit theaters in December. The film is about a whaling crew that was stranded at sea for 90 days. It's supposed to be based on a real incident that took place in 1820. Chris plays one of the crew members, Owen Chase, per Mirror. The movie was directed by Ron Howard.
The actor and the rest of the cast had to endure a diet that only allowed them to have 500 calories per day to quickly lose the muscles and the pounds. As a matter of perspective, a man with Chris' size, height and frame has to have at least 2,000 to 3,000 calories to maintain an ideal body weight.
"We kind of went insane, weighing ourselves every day," Chris told Entertainment Weekly (EW) while filming back in the summer and described the ridiculous way the cast dealt with their weight loss. "We all felt like a bunch of supermodels, trying to get down in weight for a show, or something. That's all we spoke about. You've got 15 burly blokes on the sea and all we talked about was our diet, and who'd lost more weight, and who's looking really skinny."
He also told the news outlet that he started to lose his Thor built while still filming "Black Hat," but he needed to lose more when work started with "In The Heart of The Sea." The process was not easy. "When you're already starting off lean, it's brutal to chew through that kind of weight," he said. "Every pound feels like a kilogram."
Chris' transformation had others saying how much the actor looks like Tom Hanks who also lost considerable weight and grew facial hair for his role in "Cast Away." Other fans also noted and commended Chris for his dedication and commitment to his work.
Meanwhile, TMZ reported that "The Avengers" actor is actually now back with a fuller and healthier body since doing the movie. He's all set to tackle his Marvel films by the time 2016 rolls, so he needs to get in shape again.
