'Supergirl' Season 1 Spoilers & Plot: Teenage Superman Flying In, Flashbacks Will Establish Relationship -- Details Here!

"Supergirl" on CBS is doing something drastic in one of its upcoming episode. Fueled by falling ratings, the show is going to introduce a character that will hopefully spark more interest from viewers.

TV Line reported that the freshman series is going to bring in Supergirl's more famous cousin, Superman. The casting has a slight twist as the Man of Steel is not going to be the buff superhero everyone is familiar with. The show's producers are actually planning to cast a 13-year-old actor for the role.

The news outlet further confirmed that the episode featuring teenage Superman will be its 13th episode and it will be a flashback between Kara and Kal-El. If things go well, the character might become a recurring role, per Comic Book Resources.

Fans of the TV show are trying to grasp the potential storyline knowing all too well the history of "Supergirl." In the opening credits, Kara narrates that she was sent to Earth when she was a child to keep watch over her baby cousin, Kal-El. However, her spaceship veered off course and she remained stuck in The Phantom Zone. When she finally arrived on Earth, Kal-El was already a lot older than her and has been saving the world as a grown-up Superman. Watch the opening's video below:

Blastr reported that the flashback scenes won't make sense because, as Kal-El was in his teens on Earth, Kara was still drifting in The Phantom Zone. Slash Film reported that anything is possible in a TV show that's based on a comic book, but the show's writers will have to better explain the confusion.

"Supergirl" stars Melissa Benoist in the title role alongside Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant), Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers), Mehcad Brooks (James Olsen) and Jeremy Jordan as (Winn Schott).

Meanwhile, Melissa shared that she tries to do most of her stunts for the TV show. However, sometimes, she relies on her stunt double. "My stunt double is amazing. She's so cool. I wish people could see what they go through. It's insane" she said, per Sydney Morning Herald (SMH).

The actress described work on "Supergirl" as fun. "What's cool is to try and bring a kind of femininity to her strength. You see Superman and it's obviously this solid thing but I do like the idea of bringing a grace into it, and fluidity, and kind of this femininity to the role. It's fun," she told SMH.

"Supergirl" airs every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.
