Tom Cruise and his daughter Suri haven't seen each other in over 800 days or about two years. A shocking report that was published on the National Enquirer claimed that the "Mission Impossible" star is keeping his distance from his 9-year-old daughter and his ex-wife Katie Holmes because of Scientology.
"It's pathetic that despite his wealth and fame, Tom Cruise is an absentee dad. He doesn't seem interested in being part of Suri's day-to-day life," a source apparently revealed, per Hollywood Life. While Katie tries her best to be hands-on in raising Suri, the source suggested it's different when the girl has a father figure to look up.
Daily Mail reported that, when Tom was promoting "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation" last summer in New York, he was just nearby Suri who lives in the city with her mom. However, the actor allegedly didn't even bother to spend time with his daughter. "It is possible Tom won't see Suri because he thinks Katie and her family are speaking negatively about him and Scientology," said former Scientologist Marc Headley in the report.
The news outlet also reported that Tom's representatives stated Suri and the actor actually see each other, but they do it away from the prying eyes of the public. With the star's busy schedule filming one film after the next in different locations, there isn't enough time to schedule visits with Suri.
Meanwhile, Tom defended himself with these accusations once. "The assertion that I 'abandoned' Suri after my divorce is patently false," declared Tom in court papers during his divorce proceedings with Katie, per Express. "I have in no way cut Suri out of my life - whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise."
The news of the father abandoning his daughter comes in the wake of an expose by former Scientologist actress Leah Remini, who suggested that the religion instructs its members to view non-Scientologists as SP for "suppressed person." The SPs are treated as the enemy, as previously reported on Parent Herald.
"The policy with the church is you can't be connected to someone who has committed a suppressive act - which I have, Katie has," Leah said.
The Church of Scientology blasted Leah's claims and regarded her move as a publicity stunt for the book she wrote about her experience with the religion. "She was on the verge of being expelled for her ethical lapses," the statement from the church claimed.
