For sure, everybody who owns a Samsung smartphone wants to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade. The question, however, is when will that happen?
Samsung smartphones such as the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ are still running on Lollipop at the moment, making the upgrade just sounds so good. BGR informed that a list of dates for Samsung devices eligible for the upgrade has been released. Yay!
Phone Arena reported that the Korean tech giant has been silent about its plans for Marshmallow, and the information about the update dates are just part of a leak, so excited hopefuls should not be disappointed if ever the dates are not exact. Here's the list of Samsung devices reportedly getting the upgrade, and the respective tentative dates:
- Galaxy Note 5 (December 2015)
- Galaxy S6 Edge+ (January 2016)
- Galaxy S6 (January 2016)
- Galaxy S6 edge (January 2016)
- Galaxy Note 4 (February 2016)
- Galaxy Note Edge (February 2016)
- Galaxy A5 (March 2016)
- Galaxy S5 (April 2016)
- Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (April 2016)
The upgrade timetable seems fair enough for those who recently purchased newer and more expensive models, as the newer models will get the upgrade earlier than older models. Older models such as the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy S5 will receive the update later than the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.
BGR noted that one strange thing is the date set for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. This is particularly strange because the device is not a smartphone and should not have any carrier interference in regards to getting upgraded.
Tech Times reported that Galaxy A and E series devices have been listed as “cancelled” along with all J series devices (save for the J1 smartphone), and until now all of these are waiting for approval. Galaxy S3 and S4 owners will also be disappointed to know that Samsung has not approved the upgrade to Marshmallow. The old flagships are upgradeable only up to Lollipop.
The leak comes as good news to all Samsung smartphone owners, as other devices have already been upgraded. Nexus devices, as well as the newly-released HTC One A9, have been enjoying the fluffy OS to date; while LG G4 users from selected countries such as Poland and South Korea have been given Marshmallow as well.
Marshmallow has new features that users will enjoy, such as Google now on tap and a battery-saving app called "Doze." It also has added security features and other enhanced features.
