Award-winning music artist and trailblazer Pink has been appointed as the newest ambassador for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The singer and songwriter was on "Good Morning America" Monday to begin her work with the organization.
"I've always wanted to work with UNICEF," she told the show's host Robin Roberts. "It's the one organization over the last 15 years just consistently been in mind for all the amazing things that they do and timing is everything and it worked out."
Per E! Online, Pink was in Haiti over the summer to help malnourished kids and it was there that she realized she wanted to get more involved with UNICEF. "It's one thing to see something on paper, but to see it in real life..." she said.
As a mother herself, the "Just Give Me a Reason" singer believes her desire to help kids became stronger because of her daughter. Pink has a four-year-old kid named Willow Sage with husband Carey Hart, per People. "When you have a child of your own and you try to imagine looking at them and not being able to feed them it does something to you," she further revealed in her TV appearance.
Pink's work with UNICEF will be focused on children's fitness. The new ambassador launched the UNICEF Kid Power band, which not only helps children maintain a fit and active lifestyle. It also channels funds to the organization.
The device works through an interactive app that keeps track of the kids' exercises. It lets kids earn points when they complete their fitness goals. For every points earned, UNICEF will provide the funds that will be used to send food packets in Haiti, according to Access Hollywood.
The app also teaches kids about different cultures and countries. As they progress in their fitness routine, they will be able to unlock special videos and messages. "They found a brilliant way, and a fun way, to get kids here involved and empowered and motivated," Pink proudly said of UNICEF's initiative. "And they are also turning them into global citizens and they get to be hands-on."
Pink will be making rounds at schools in New York City for the testing phase of the UNICEF Kid Power Band this week. Her trainer Jeanette Jenkins will also be helping out. Her husband and her daughter will be sporting the bands and earning points themselves. "Between Carey, myself and Willow, it's going to get a little competitive," the Grammy-winner happily said.
