"Mortal Kombat X" creator Ed Boon confirmed that the latest details from the fighting game could be expected from the Game Awards on Thursday, Dec. 3. In a Twitter post Monday, the 51-year-old video game programmer said that a new teaser will finally be unveiled and the exclusive reveal is dubbed as "Who's Next."
Yahoo Games reported that the term was used by "Mortal Kombat X" developer NetherRealm when it previously teased a photo of upcoming characters last September. The company only showed these in silhouette form, triggering a slew of guesses from the fans. With the game still expected to be released in the first half of 2016, there are assumptions that "Who's Next" might only unveil one of the four new characters' silhouettes at a time.
Latin Post reported that fans are strongly hoping the reveal will have characters like X-Men's Wolverine and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the latest DLC lineup. However, Boon already negated the Ninja Turtle guess when a fan asked about it on his Twitter. Apparently, the game creator actively interacts with gamers and answers their inquiries on the social media site.
The silhouetted teaser is also a hot discussion among gamers and developers in the Steam community forum and this is where the assumption that one of the characters is Wolverine was hatched. One of the four silhouettes looked like he could be hairy and bearded, hence the guess.
However, some of the expert players of "Mortal Kombat X" said that, in the past, these teasers usually don't end up giving the exact image of the characters. When the early Kombat Pack was released, the characters added did not look like their silhouettes at all. "The silhouettes aren't a good way to tell who the Kombat Pack characters are. They used similar silhouettes for the MK (2011) DLC fighters, and none of them had Freddy's hat," said one forum member.
The Game Awards is set to air at 9 p.m. and can be watched directly from the official site or through any gaming device. Aside from the "Mortal Kombat X" teaser, the event promises to offer 10 world premieres of different games, per Gamespot.
"Mortal Kombat X" was first released in April 2015 for the PC and gaming consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation 4. So far, the first four DLC characters released included iconic movie characters like Jason Voorhees, Tremor and Predator, with the addition of in-game favorite character Tanya.
