The expectations are set high for “Frozen 2,” the sequel to Disney's hit movie “Frozen.” Fans are happy that the movie is confirmed, but details regarding the movie are still scarce. Currently, plot rumors revealing themes of “forgiveness” and an “unhappy” ending are circulating.
According to Crossmap, one of the news moving around persistently claimed that Prince Hans will be making a comeback in the sequel. This return of the then-vile character comes with a massive surprise: he is rumored to return as Queen Elsa's love interest.
This idea brings about the notion that the plot of “Frozen 2” might revolve around forgiveness and second chances. Disney will need to do a lot of things to convince viewers of Hans' change of heart – after all, everyone who has watched the first film will immediately recognize him as someone who should not be trusted.
It is worth noting that this idea, as well as other rumored plot ideas that are currently circulating, are still rumors. ABC reported that for his part, “Frozen” director Chris Buck said that he has already decided on the sequel's direction.
"We have lots of things to figure out but at least we know where we are going," Buck told Jane Hutcheon on One Plus One, referring to the highly-anticipated movie's plot.
ABC noted that Buck, along with co-director Jennifer Lee, wants to divert from the common fairytale interpretation of love, and present the concept of real love. This he plans to do by portraying the love that binds siblings Elsa and Anna, not by inserting a “love's true kiss” idea.
Additionally, rumors speculated that the sequel will not have a happy ending. According to Movie News Guide, this idea was implied from what Buck himself said in an interview with MTV.
“In the movie, Elsa went through a very dramatic character arc, and in this one, she got to lighten up. We saw a bit more of her personality,” he said. “So then we started thinking about what we could do with all of these characters in another film. We had a nice happy ending at the end of the first one, but what’s next?”
Whatever the actual plot may be, fans can be assured that it will be bringing a message that is relevant to today.
"I take the films that I make very seriously, the messages and the morals that I'm trying to convey," Buck said.
