Tech giants Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, along with other billionaires from different private sectors, are taking charge to help fund a study to fix the earth's ongoing climate issue.
According to TechCrunch, Mark Zuckerberg, the master behind Facebook, announced on his page the unveiling of the Breakthrough Energy Coalition. The announcement was made on Sunday evening, just before the COP21 climate change meeting in Paris, France.
Zuckerberg, together with wife Priscilla Chan, partnered with Gates to launch the campaign to try to achieve a zero-carbon energy technology. There are other members in the coalition that include Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon and Virgin's Richard Branson. The wealthy Chinese business man Jack Ma, the executive chairman of Alibaba, is also included in the roster.
According to the news outlet, The Next Web, Gates, Zuckerberg and the rest of the businessmen who have joined the organization will work with different countries who have submitted themselves to commit with the development of this zero-emissions technology.
In their website, Breakthrough Energy Coalition said that it aims to build a technology that will solve energy issues that are affecting the climate around the world.
"Technology will help solve our energy issues. The urgency of climate change and the energy needs in the poorest parts of the world require an aggressive global program for zero-emission energy innovation," a post in their website stated.
"The new model will be a public-private partnership between governments, research institutions, and investors. Scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs can invent and scale the innovative technologies that will limit the impact of climate change while providing affordable and reliable energy to everyone," it added. "The existing system of basic research, clean energy investment, regulatory frameworks, and subsidies fails to sufficiently mobilize investment in truly transformative energy solutions for the future. We can't wait for the system to change through normal cycles."
The Zuckerberg couple, who will soon be new parents of a baby girl, are doing their best to help out.
"Priscilla and I are joining Bill Gates in launching the Breakthrough Energy Coalition to invest in new clean energy technologies," stated the Facebook founder.
Tech Crunch also added in their report that the Breakthrough Energy Coalition will work with another energy research organization known as Mission Innovation. Gates will be joining US President Barack Obama in launching the separate group on Monday in Paris.
