“The Walking Dead” had its midseason finale last Sunday. For sure, fans would want to know more about what will happen in the story. Good thing, TWD showrunner Scott M. Gimple gave some detail that fans better watch out.
Vanity Fair reported that the recent episode has sparked some amount of concern for Glenn fans because of the series' introduction of the Saviors. Glenn has just returned alive and kicking, but with new villain Negan coming in, fans aren't so sure how long that will last.
As seen in the comic book version, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the Saviors' leader, murders Glenn by bashing a barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat into the unfortunate character's head. For those who know this to be true, that sounds like the series will bid actor Steven Yeun goodbye, but since the show has been quite loose with the original comic book story, it's best to take it easy.
Here's how Gimple describes Negan:
"Negan is pure id. Just unmitigated id," Gimple told USA Today. "He's not a psychopath. He's not crazy. But he is driven and he is very much a character totally unique to the landscape of the walking dead that we've seen thus far."
Here's what Gimple told Entertainment Weekly about the Saviors and the story:
“For people who aren’t familiar with [Negan and the Saviors], I don’t want to say much. Though I do believe you should read the comics, if you haven’t yet you’re going to — I hope — have some exciting and fun discovery as the layers are peeled away on that mystery. And if you have read the comics, there are a lot of moments directly out of the book when it comes to the Saviors. And then some really cool expansions of the comic story."
Gimple also mentioned that there will be some "hard left turns from the comic story." VF reported that based on this, some have speculated that somebody else could die instead of Glenn. To date, one character rumored to be saying goodbye to the series is fan-favorite Daryl Dixon.
Norman Reedus has been reportedly receiving more projects lately. And with the addition of his crossbow and bike taken away from him in episode 6, some have already expected that it will be so.
