House Full of Twins: Scottish Mom Gives Birth to Third Set of Twins

A Scottish woman has become one of the first few mothers in the world to conceive and give birth to three sets of twins.

Karen and husband Colin Rodger, based in Langbank, Refrewshire welcomed their third set of twins- daughters Rowan and Isla, last week at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. The non-identical twins weighed 5 pounds - 8 ounces; and 6 pounds at birth respectively, Mirror UK, reported.

The couple is already parents to two set of twins - Lewis and Kyle (14); Finn and Jude (12).

According to the reports, the couple learnt about their third set of twins at six weeks of pregnancy and doctors had told them that the odds of having twins three times consecutively occur only one in 500,000 cases.

No wonder, the expecting couple also took some time to accept the truth.

"It never crossed my mind that it would be twins again but I'm absolutely delighted," the 41-year-old mother who had texted the news to her husband immediately, told Daily Mail. "He thought I was joking and immediately wrote back to say, 'This is not funny'. I had to explain that it really was true."

However, Karen and her event manager husband had kept gender of their third set of twins a surprise until the end. The new parents opened up with the press about their happiness at the unexpected arrival of their daughters.

"I still haven't really taken it on board because I was convinced I was having two boys. The girls are only a few days old so I'm still getting my head around the fact that there will be more girls in the house, people to steal my sparkly shoes and my make-up," the proud mom, who is a dance lecturer, told Mirror, UK. "I'm absolutely over the moon it's girls it's definitely a good journey ahead."

The couple, decided to try their luck third time when they started feeling that their family was not complete only with their four twin boys. The new parents are now in a hurry to buy a new car to accommodate their big family and to renovate their house to build a separate room for their new arrivals.

Miracle births have always been part of the medical history and recently a rare set of twins drew wide attention for being born 87 days apart. According to the reports, Twins Amy and Katie from Ireland are getting ready to enter the Guinness World Record for the "longest interval between the birth of twins," and break the current record of 84 days.
