'Destiny' Update 2.1.0 Live Today! Expect Events Over Expansions -- Update Details Here!

Shooter game “Destiny” has been racking up a lot of fans lately! Several reports claimed that, although “The Taken King” was released months ago, the number of players that continue playing the game for hours are still in the millions. Now, with 2015 coming to a quick close, fans are asking what's in store for the game.

Eurogamer reported that game developer Bungie's plans for “Destiny” Year Two are different from the first year. If in the first year players have received DLC packs, in year two, events are the way to go.

"With Taken King we are moving to a more event-based model - things like Festival of the Lost and Sparrow racing, which is our winter event, and then smaller events such as Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris every weekend,” said “Destiny” Live Team Senior Designer Derek Carroll.

"Rather than doing these giant, monolithic DLC packs, this way everybody who's an owner of Taken King can enjoy these things," he added.

Kotaku earlier reported that a DLC was cancelled in order for Bungie to have more time in developing “Destiny 2.” Carroll, however, didn't give any detail about that.

"There's lots of different reasons as to why - I don't know how deep I can get into that,” Carroll said. “But basically the live team is charged with maintaining the game and keeping players happy, feeding them new content and surprising them with things they didn't expect."

So, it seems that Bungie is taking a different route compared to what they did with “The Dark Below” and “House of Wolves” last year. Although new DLCs won't be coming, events such as Festival of the Lost and the recently opened Sparrow Racing are still enjoyable and free.

"The way we're going is: you can expect new content from the live team in Destiny although we're not really telegraphing that. Certainly, players can expect new events and new content throughout the next year. We're taking it one step at a time."

Speaking of taking a step at a time, a new Update 2.1.0 is going live today, most likely at 10 a.m. PST.

Gaming Bolt reported that the update will balance the game's weapon types and add several tweaks as well.

Powerful weapons such as Pulse rifles and shotguns will receive nerfs, auto rifles will receive damage buffs and handcannons will have greater stability. Sunbreaker Titans will be nerfed, while Defenders and Strikers will be buffed.
