'Ant-Man 2' Release Date & Plot: 'Ant-Man & The Wasp' Sequel Director Says It Has an 'Entirely Different Genre'; Adam McKay Set to Return?

Paul Rudd's “Ant-Man” has captured the hearts of many, especially the Marvel fans who did not expect to see an average guy become an unsuspecting hero. With the size-shifter cast into “Captain America: Civil War,” it seems that his identity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being cemented. What does the sequel hold for the big/small guy?

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, “Ant-Man” director Peyton Reed dished out that the sequel, “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” will be of a totally different genre than the first movie.

"I think there's probably going to be some aspects that maybe call back to the tone of this movie, but for 'Ant-Man and the Wasp,' we have an entirely different template,” he said. “We know what that template is, and we have an entirely different genre template for that movie. But it's going to remain a surprise. But yes, that's already been decided.”

Not only that, Reed even mentioned that screenwriter Adam McKay could be coming back to the fray, along with some others who were not credited before.

He said that star and co-writer Rudd, along with uncredited production writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, will be back to work on the movies. McKay himself will be back as well, however only "to some capacity."

Reed said that McKay's return is affected by his schedules.

“A lot of it has to do with his schedule on 'The Big Short' because he's promoting that movie and is probably, I would think, well into the Oscar season,” he divulged.

The director also mentioned that he is excited to have the unique partnership between Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp (Evangeline Lily) work out in the sequel.

“I'm excited just for Evangeline [Lily] to actually suit up and become a hero in the movie,” he said. “I'm also excited about the idea that Ant-Man and the Wasp were a partnership throughout the history of Marvel Comics. It's a different dynamic than we've seen in the rest of the Marvel movies, an actual partnership.”

IGN reported that “Ant-Man and The Wasp” will be a "much weirder movie" that's exciting to watch out for. However, it's still a long way before its release on July 6, 2018. See Paul Rudd don the Ant-Man suit in “Captain America: Civil War” in theaters May 6, 2016.
