Several gamers who love the first-person action role-playing video game "System Shock" have been looking forward to the title's new sequel. "System Shock 2" was released in 1999 and, after 16 years of waiting, there are finally hints that "System Shock 3" is in development.
Ars Technica reported that Night Dive Studios, the group behind the recent "System Shock Enhanced Edition" and the new owner of the "System Shock" IP, teased about the possibility of "System Shock 3."
New reports confirmed that "System Shock 3" is in the works and OtherSide Entertainment will be developing it. The reports even claimed that the same developers were behind "Underworld Ascendant."
CinemaBlend shared that it finds OtherSide Entertainment perfect for "System Shock 3". "OtherSide Entertainment seems like a fitting developer for the project. The team at OtherSide includes former members of System Shock creators Looking Glass Studios," the report suggested. "Paul Neurath, a co-founder of Looking Glass, is CEO of OtherSide. Art Director Nate Wells was a level designer and artist for System Shock 2. OtherSide lead designer Tim Stellmach also served as designer on the first System Shock. "
If this is the case, then, gamers can expect a ton of fun from the same individuals who brought "System Shock" back to life. However, although the original creator of the game is involved in the anticipated title, fans can't expect that "System Shock 3" will be available any time soon.
According to Ars Technica, "System Shock 3" was supposed to be the big reveal at the end of a countdown timer that OtherSide Entertainment started on their website yesterday. One will see two flickering letter "S" on the page with a timer on the right side, which was set for five days. Below the teaser and the countdown timer are the words "Pathetic creature of meat and bone... You think you can hack me?"
The report suggested that it is also possible that the countdown is for another project. However, the discovered page and the link to sign up to the "System Shock 3" mailing list are already concrete and conclusive evidence that OtherSide Entertainment is hinting about the third installment of "System Shock."
The leaked page doesn't give away much other than the title, which is possibly "System Shock 3." At the time, we can't tell if the anticipated title will be crowdfunded like "Underworld Ascendant." However, since the team is small, it is likely that "System Shock 3" will be crowdfunded too.
We are hoping for more news and revelations about "System Shock 3" when the countdown timer reaches zero. So, stay tuned and we will keep you posted about the game.
