One of the most anticipated superhero clash movies of 2016, “X-Men: Apocalypse,” has finally released its official trailer.
Comic Book reports that the trailer teases a ton of plot details about the film. The third installment, a sequel to the earlier films, “X-Men: First Class,” followed by “X-Men: Days of Future Past” looks to be extremely action packed.
Here are some details that can be found in the trailer.
Jean's Prophecy
The trailer shows Sophie Turner's Jean Grey waking up from what seems to be a nightmare, and then telling James McAvoy's Xavier about it. The professor, for his part, just dismisses it as a dream. CB speculates that this could mean Jean's raw power surpass Xavier's, or possibly it could be the powers of the Phoenix.
Apocalypse: The First Mutant
Although he looks like a cross between Darth Vader and “Assassin's Creed” according to The Guardian, viewers cannot deny that Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse appears to be the first mutant. He first person to be born with the X-gene, and has a group of followers called “Clan Akkaba.”
On One Side of the Coin
On the protagonist's side, you'll find Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as the Beast, Kodi-Smit McPhee as the Nightcrawler and Lana Condor as Jubilee. Although Jubilee only had cameo roles in the past, this time she's part of the main cast.
The trailer also features Evan Peters as Quicksilver, who appears to be caught up in some predicament.
On the Other Side of the Coin
Facing the heroes are Apocalypse's Four Horsemen: Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, and Ben Hardy as Archangel.
Apocalypse's Size
Although Isaac is only 5ft 7in tall, that won't be a problem as Apocalypse has the ability to manipulate his physical makeup on a molecular level. He is able to alter all the atoms in his body, and command them to change into any item of his liking.
Cyclop's Optic Blasts
Cyclops, played by Tye Sheridan, can't control his powers, and gets Mystique to help him out. Obviously, he needs to have control of those optic blasts – because “looks can kill.”
Finally, a bald Professor X
The post-logo scene shows a bald James McAvoy who looks like Patrick Stewart's original Charles Xavier, who according to comic canon had an inborn affinity to lose his hair over time. Maybe Fox had McAvoy's Xavier sport that earlier hairdo so that he could be distinguished from Stewart's.
This is exciting. “X-Men: Apocalypse” releases May 27, 2016.
