The story of a refugee from Syria had moved many people including the Hollywood actor, Edward Norton. The 46-year-old "Fight Club" actor is currently working to raise enough money for the Syrian scientist who was first featured last week in the popular Facebook page, Humans of New York.
The refugee, who will soon start his new life in Troy, Michigan, expressed his concern about the place.
"I know nothing about it. I just hope that it's safe and that it's a place where they respect science. I just want to get back to work. I want to be a person again. I don't want the world to think I'm over. I'm still here," he stated as posted in Humans of New York.
The act of kindness by Norton is becoming viral online, which also garnered support from many netizens who would like to extend help as well. The campaign currently collected almost $400,000 from different sponsors through Norton's CrowdRise fundraiser, according to the report by Michigan Live.
Norton admitted to have found himself in tears when he saw the Facebook post about the scientist in Humans of New York. "This man has suffered profound loss that would crush the spirit of many people and yet he still passionately wants a chance to contribute positively to the world," he explained.
He then added: "Everything we raise here will go to help this family so that the father can get the medical treatment he needs to live and pursue his work." He continued by saying that the money can also be used by the family as they start their new life after what they have gone through living in a war-torn country.
Meanwhile, People shared that U.S. President Barack Obama responded to the post from Humans of New York through his Personal Facebook page.
"As a husband and a father, I cannot even begin to imagine the loss you've endured." He added that the refugee and his family is an inspiration. Obama believed that "the great people of Michigan will embrace" the scientist with the kindness and support he deserves.
The President also stated that it is never too late for the man to make a difference in the world and mentioned that the American people will be so proud if he will continue pursuing his dreams in the U.S. He ended his post welcoming the refugee to the U.S. and cited that he is what makes the country great.
