The last time news about a new installment to the "Transformers" movie franchise made the rounds, Mark Wahlberg was reportedly "committed" to doing another project involving the robot-themed movie.
Although the actor described his commitment to the project during an earlier interview with MTV, it wasn't enough for fans to be sure that he's returning -- that is until he confirmed it again.
A report from CinePop revealed that the actor answered a flat-out "Yes" when asked if he will be part of the next "Transformers" movie.
A video (shown below) published on Dec. 14 shows the 44-year-old "The Other Guys" actor speaking about his transition to comedy and making his confirmation.
Wahlberg made his debut in the "Transformers" franchise in "Transformers: Age of Extinction," in which he played the role of a single father named Cade Yeager to daughter Tessa, portrayed by Nicola Peltz.
In the movie, Wahlberg was a mechanic in a small town in Texas who discovered Optimus Prime. Cade worked with the Autobots to help put a stop to the Decepticons. In the upcoming movie, it is highly likely that Wahlberg will return to reprise his role.
"Transformers 5" has yet to receive its official title. Details of the movie have been kept under wraps, but there are some bits that are already known about the sequel.
According to various reports, the next "Transformers" movie will be written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway -- both known for writing the scripts for "Iron Man -- and Ken Nolan of "Black Hawk Down."
As for who will take the director's seat, nothing has been confirmed yet and all reports can't seem to confirm if Michael Bay will return to work on the project or not.
We Got It Covered also reported that the sequel will likely feature Optimus Prime, who is still in command of the Autobots as they face a different kind of threat.
With Wahlberg confirming his return to the franchise, it only means that the next movie will still feature humans. The news portal gathered that fans have long wanted for the franchise to write off humans and give the spotlight only to the robots.
While fans are still waiting for confirmation on the plot details, some speculated that the film will feature both humans and robots. In other words, this means that the location would be on earth and in space, as reported by Movie Web.
As for the release date, there's no exact information yet. However, IMDB lists the movie as a 2017 release.
