Parents can Control Children's Online Activities by 'Kindle Free Time'

Controlling and fixing a specific media time and monitoring the content of the media for children are often a headache for parents. Putting an end to that problem, Amazon, along with its latest Kindles introduced a new feature for their tablets called "Kindle Free Time."

The new feature was announced during the launch of HD version of the Kindle Fire and Paperwhite back-lit Kindle e-reader in Los Angeles on Thursday

With the help of "Free Time," parents can easily control the time their child become engaged on each activity like reading books, using apps and watching videos. They can also create separate profiles for each child and save the timings. When the time gets over, the Kindle Fire screen alert the parents by changing the screen color into blue.

According to convenience, new profiles can be created and merged together.

"With FreeTime, parents never have to worry what content their kids will access-parents select all of the content their kids can see and kids can't exit FreeTime without a password," mashable .com quoted a statement from the company Amazon. "FreeTime also lets parents limit their kids' screen time by content type-they may choose to limit videos and games, for example, but make reading time unlimited."

Though other devices like iPad and Android tablets have helped in controlling the use of certain apps, this is the first one to broaden the categories of usage, GottaBe Mobile reported.

The current initiative comes after the company received complaints from parents about the lack of any security controls for the tablet and children accessing and downloading any content without their knowledge.

The new parental control feature will come free along with the new Kindle Fire devices, in the next few weeks.
