Apple iPhone 7 Confirmed to Have 3D Touch, Feature Dropped by iPad Air 3 [Release Date, Price & Specs Rumors]

Apple has been a frontrunner in adding pressure-sensitive technology for its products. It has already introduced the Force Click for its laptop trackpads and the Force Touch for its Apple Watch. For the 3D Touch, Apple is making a few changes this time around as it has been confirmed that the technology will be only present for the iPhone 7 but missing in iPad Air 3.

Apple Insider reported that the reason why the tech company isn't adding 3D Touch for the iPad Air 3 is because the technology won't be able to accommodate a larger display. The iPad Air 3 is said to come with 9.7 inch panels and it's deemed too big for the 3D Touch.

Alphr reported that the issue with 3D Touch technology has been a source of problems and delays during the production of other Apple products. However, since the company already made the decision to drop this feature for the iPad Air 3, the release of this device may go ahead as planned in March 2016.

Meanwhile, MacRumors reported that the 3D Touch display for the iPhone 7 will be a lot similar to how it works in the iPhone 6s. The feature adds an extra layer of control for the smartphone. For instance, pressing hard on the app's icon will enable a pop-up menu for most used apps and tasks.

The news site based its report on the analysis of a KGI Securities research, which also stated that usage performance of the technology may only noticeable with long-term use. The analysis also reiterated that there is a need for more third party support for the app so that its use can be maximized. There's also no way of determining which third party support are actually compatible with 3D Touch technology, hence the analysis stated that there are very little improvements to what it can offer for potential iPhone 7 consumers.

The iPhone 7 is expected to hit retail stores by September 2016, Apple's usual timeframe for iPhone releases.

Value Walk reported that Apple is actually working on another technology that will work similar to the 3D Touch and it's one that will be compatible for both iPhone and iPad devices. However, since there are only a few months before the release of the next generation iPad and iPhone, Apple won't be able to incorporate the technology then. Users will have to wait for the next releases for this new feature.
