After losing his wife and kids as a result of playing "Fallout 4" for three straight weeks, a gamer from Russia is reportedly suing the creator of the game. As he puts it the said game is "too involving."
The 28-year-old man from Krasnoyarsk found out about the game in an advert and subsequently downloaded it onto his computer. That was when his problems began in earnest. He only intended to play it for a couple of evenings, but instead became addicted and the next three weeks flew by.
In a statement released by his lawyers, the man said he didn't realize how addictive the popular action role-playing game would be as reported in The Huffington Post. "If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it," he said. "I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays."
The game is about a character emerging from a post-apocalyptic Boston in the year 2287 and such was his dedication that his apocalypse was unfolding right before his very eyes. His addiction had cost him to lose his job. He stopped seeing or talking to his friends and consequently his wife and kids left him. His health also began to deteriorate as he seldom slept and ate.
The 28-year old man from Krasnoyarsk now wants to sue the creators of the game Bethesda Game Studios and the Russian localization firm for 500,000 rubles ($7,000) for emotional distress.
A similar case also happened to an American guy for being addicted to "Lineage II"; he won and got compensated as posted on Engadget. On the other hand, Bethesda Game Studios has not released any comment yet regarding the topic.
