Fans have been excited about the premiere of the fourth season of "Sherlock," a proof to this is the release of a number of fan-made trailers in 2015. However, there has been little officially-released details about the next season of the critically-acclaimed series.
A "Sherlock" Christmas special is set for release some time in January 2016. A trailer for the special one-off episode was released back on Oct. 7, 2015 and a clip of the episode was released on July 9 of the same year.
Some fans of the show have been speculative about the Victorian-themed special of the show, which is entitled "The Abominable Bride." They said that theme will not translate well to the modernized look and feel of the series.
On the "Fan Theory" podcast, "Sherlock" creator Steven Moffat defended their choice stating, "We had to sort of justify that...and really, the one thing that doesn't travel to the modern day about Sherlock Holmes is the Victorian ghost story." He added: "Ghost stories are better in Victorian times, that's just a fact. They still make Victorian ghost stories because that's where they belong. So, we thought, 'Well, it's got to be a ghost story, because that is the one thing that somehow the modern day doesn't really work for."
However, there has been no release date set for the fourth season of the show neither have any official clips nor trailers been released. Although most information has been kept under wraps, Moffat has released a few details about the characters and a few plot points as well.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moffat has said that the episode in season 4 will be devastating. Because of this, rumors have been spreading that a fan-favorite character of the show will likely be killed off, much to the dismay of fans. Mary Watson is one of the characters most likely to be killed off, according to reports, because she dies in the original version of "Sherlock" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
In the same interview, Moffat was also quoted as saying, "We've practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan ... we're probably more excited that we've ever been about Sherlock." Viewers should brace themselves for some shocking twists and turns that this show is known to deliver.
There have also been rumors surrounding the eponymous protagonist's sexuality, with some rumors stating Sherlock might be gay. In a recent interview on The Nerdist Podcast, Benedict Cumberbatch spoke of the similarities and differences between Sherlock and Doctor Who.
"[Doctor Who] talks fast and is clever, that is literally the only bracket they share. They've got different dress senses, different taste in the sex of their partners..." he stated. Also, some said that this can be an opening for Sherlock to find a love interest on the show.
