Parents who want to give their children a smartphone and, at the same time, like to protect them online may choose the iPhone that is featured-pack with parental control. This feature is called Family Sharing.
The new feature of iPhone in iOS8 makes the families share data and contents. The New York Times shared that in this feature the parents can be the primary card holder at iTunes account. Parents can also welcome other family members to join the group. They can share contacts and utilize the app without paying for it again. It can also make each family member connected to one another. They can share their photos, iBooks, family calendar, and Apple store purchases.
The benefits of Parental Control feature include preventing your children from approaching websites that are not suitable for them such as porn and other inappropriate and adult content. The parents can supervise their children in the in-apps purchases and can examine the apps that their children are downloading.
The NY Times reported that the iPhone app also has restrictions setting wherein parents can constrain the Safari browser from downloading websites that have adult and inappropriate contents. This can prevent your children from streaming movies or video from a cellular connection.
Another of its important feature is that you can share your whereabouts to your family members, according to Apple, Inc. It can track where your children are. On the other hand, you may disable the Share My Location for privacy.
Meanwhile, Ms. Knorr of Common Sense Media said that, even though Apple is building solutions for protecting children online, it cannot really solve the problem. She said that parents should have phone restrictions and advise their children on what is right and wrong and enable them to understand various features in time.
