The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" did not stop making headlines since it premiered to theatres worldwide. Now, new reports claimed that the latest installment of the "Star Wars" franchise will surpass "Titanic" ($658.7 million) and "Jurassic World" ($652.3 million) to become one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
USA Today shared that Disney's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has already earned a domestic box-office total of $652 million and an estimated $679.2 million in the international box office.
"The J.J. Abrams-directed movie is a big reason why the North American box office moved past a record $11 billion in 2015, which was announced Tuesday," the report said. "Also announced this week: Star Wars: The Force Awakens crossed the $600 million mark faster than any other movie in history."
Meanwhile, George Lucas has apologized for remarks he made about Disney and the new "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie. He previously said that he was not a fan of the record-breaking "Star Wars" film and that he did not like the "retro" approach, likening Disney to "white slavers."
"I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologize," Lucas told The Playlist. "I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and [Disney CEO] Bob Iger's leadership. Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise," he added.
To recall, Lucas expressed his disappointments after learning that his ideas for Episodes VII through IX were dismissed by the management. "They looked at the stories, and they said, 'We want to make something for the fans,'" he stated of Disney, who bought the rights to the cinematic properties of Lucasfilms for $4 billion. He also referred "Star Wars" films as his kids in the Rose interview, per RollingStone.
