Recent study shows that high consumption of sugar could lead to having breast cancer.
Many are aware that too much sugar in a diet is an unhealthy practice because it promotes diabetes. However, apparently, that is not the only disease that could hit the human body. CTVNews reported this new development in science and health proving the link between high level of sugar and breast cancer.
A group of scientists at the University of Texas has teamed up for this study indicating the effect of consuming too much sugar could cause breast cancer and they did it by using animals that have been genetically modified for this project.
This case involved mice and they were divided into 4 groups where each of them was given various kinds of diet that differ in sugar levels. This was done to those animals until they are six months old.
Based on the experiment that was officially published on the Cancer Research Journal, the result showed that those mice that were getting the same sugar level that Americans and other Western country citizens are having in their diet experienced some rapid growth of tumors leading them to have lung cancer. Meanwhile, the other group of mice that were given some sucrose-enriched meals has developed tumors in their chest area.
Mice that were given non-sugar diet ended up fine and not having to worry about tumors and cancer scares. The researchers concluded that the enzyme 12-LOX and the fatty acid 12-HETE were triggered by sugar that eventually leads to breast cancer.
The experiment also made these scientists believe that food that are high in fructose could also trigger the increase of 12-HETE and it doesn't lead to breast cancer, but to eventually having lung cancer as well.
This is why it is highly recommended to go easy on the sugar when it comes daily meals to prevent the body from having these deadly diseases.
