Exercises For Pregnant Women: Effective Ways To Induce Labor

Pregnant women who are wondering how they can go into labor sooner rather than later are in for a treat. There are certain exercises for pregnant women that are effective ways to stimulate labor and give birth at either the expected date of child delivery or even a bit sooner than that.

The following exercises are for pregnant women during the early term of pregnancy. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists or ACOG, women who are in the early term of pregnancy are those who are 37 to 38 weeks and 6 days pregnant.

According to Yahoo Parenting, the effective exercises for pregnant women include: Regular sexual intercourse to promote uterine contractions and softening of the cervix; daily moderate walking for fitness and to aid the baby move in the pelvis; stimulation of the nipples to induce uterine contraction; full squats several times daily to maximize pelvic space for childbirth; sitting on an exercise ball while rolling the pelvis to engage the baby into the pelvis; lunging exercises to aid the baby's movement through the pelvis.

Dr. Patrick Catalano of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland told MedPage Today in an interview that pregnant women should also perform exercises not only to induce labor but also to prevent obesity, "These recommendations seem so obvious, but it makes something that we take for granted -- such as healthy eating, good nutrition, and exercise -- into something that we have to pay attention to," Catalano said. "This is a problem that needs to be on the ob/gyn's radar because it begins before pregnancy, can cause issues during pregnancy, and persists even after delivery."

Pregnant women should always remember to perform these activities regularly but with moderation. Commitment and proper performance of these exercises for pregnant women are the most effective ways to stimulate labor and help make childbirth easier and quicker than usual.
