The District Attorney of Los Angeles refused to file the rape charges against comedian Bill Cosby on Wednesday, January 6. ABC reported that, upon the evaluation of the case bestowed upon Cosby from different women declaring he sexually abused them dating 1965 up to 2008, the DA decided to drop those charges due to the expiration of the statue of limitations based on court documents.
Aside from the fact that the statute of limitations being expired, the whole charges made to Cosby lack evidences to back it up. The DA's office, however, thought of first charging him with felony from the sexual battery by restraint filed against him by a lot of women. But then, due to lack of proof, that too has been dropped.
Cosby's side were happy to hear about this news and his lawyer Chris Tayback made a statement saying, "We are satisfied that the Los Angeles DA's Office fully and fairly evaluated all the facts and evidence, and came to the right conclusion."
Meanwhile, alleged victims of Cosby were disappointed about the DA's decision. One of the women who claimed to have been molested by Cosby in 1965 was not happy about it. As a matter of fact, her lawyer Gloria Allred told the network ABC, "It is very difficult for a person who alleges that she is a victim to understand that there are arbitrary time periods set by law and that if allegations are not reported within that time period that it will be too late for a prosecutor to pursue them even if a prosecutor believes that there is sufficient evidence to prove that case beyond a reasonable doubt."
NBC also reported that the other alleged victim who said she was sexually assaulted by the comedian when she was 18 back in 2008. However, even that charge was dropped by the DA.
