Most of us are used to ordering small, medium, and large sizes whenever they get drinks. This may mean that some people could be intimidated by the uniquely named drink sizes at Starbucks, but here is a helpful guide to tell you what they mean.
Starbucks has recently updated its available cup sizes to include five different types. The first of these is the short size. Not a lot of people know about this size because it is not frequently ordered. The short size in Starbucks is only available for hot beverages. A small cup contains 8 fluid ounces.
Next on the list is the only other cup size the famous Seattle coffee chain offers that is in English. "Tall is regarded as a 'small' size drink," says Food World News. The tall contains a humble 12 fluid ounces of a drink.
Up next is the grande. This 16-ounce drink size is probably the most commonly mispronounced one (it is actually pronounced as "grawn-day"). Grande is the Italian, French, and Spanish word for large, but there are still two sizes bigger than it at Starbucks.
The venti is larger than the grande, coming in at 20 fluid ounces. Its size can be compared to that of an extra large at another popular coffee shop, Tim Hortons. Keeping up with the theme of Italian names for their cup sizes, venti means 20 in Italian.
The largest among all the Starbucks cup sizes is the trenta. However, it is not available for all drinks on the menu. According to the official website of Starbuck's customer service, the trenta size is "only available for Shaken Iced Tea, Shaken Iced Tea Lemonade, Iced Coffee, Cold Brew, and Starbucks Refreshers." Trenta means thirty in Italian and the cup contains 30 fluid ounces of drink.
