Pierce Brosnan’s Daughter Dies of Ovarian Cancer

Pierce Brosnan's step-daughter Charlotte passed away Friday night after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

In a statement issued by the actor, he said, "On June 28 at 2 p.m. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean."

Pierce's first wife Cassandra Harris, too, died of ovarian cancer. Charlotte, 41, was one of Cassandra's children from a previous marriage. She is survived by her husband Alex and children Isabella, 15, and Lucas, 8.

"Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences," Pierce said.

He adopted Charlotte and her brother Christopher after their father passed away in 1986. Pierce had another child with Cassandra, son Sean, and has two sons Dylan and Paris with wife Keely Shaye Smith.

Earlier this year Brosnan told the Daily Express that Charlotte, Chritopher and him "clicked a s a family." "Charlotte and Chris have just been amazing in my life," he said.

Brosnan, who plays a widower dating a woman battling cancer in his latest film, Love Is All You Need, talked to Britain's Daily Mail in March about his role and Cassandra's' death-a loss that he acknowledged he was still grieving to this day.

According to American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is the ninth most common cancer among women, excluding non-melanoma skin cancers. It ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. Ovarian cancer accounts for about 3 percent of all cancers in women. A woman's risk of getting ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 72. Her lifetime chance of dying from ovarian cancer is about 1 in 100.
