Sleepless Nights Cause Weight Gain

A research study reports that there is a direct connection between sleeping late and weight gain.

According to the Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States of America, people who slept very late at around four in the morning are more at risk of consuming around 550 calories compared to those who sleep earlier.

Other than proving the fact that sleeping late encourages a person to eat more foods, the study also proved that those who are able to sleep for eight hours at night are more likely to do their body good.

225 healthy adults were gathered together to participate in the study. Results showed that those who slept from four to eight in the morning for five consecutive days gained more weight compared to those who slept for eight hours every night, between 10 in the evening until eight in the morning.

Respondents who were deprived from sleep did not only eat more calories, it was reported that they also consumed more high-calorie and high-fat foods like chips, sodas, chocolates and fast foods.

Men more than women were reported to gain more weight with lack of sleep. Africans gained more weight than Caucasians.

Last year, a different study that was conducted to prove the relationship between sleeping late and gaining weight stated that those who have five hours of sleep on weekdays snacked on more foods which resulted to an increase in their waistline.

In just five days, an individual can gain as much as two pounds or 1 kilogram as concluded by the University of Colorado in Boulder.
