The U.S. News and World Report has ranked and evaluated the top 38 diets for 2016. And the most weight-friendly one is no other than the DASH diet -- followed by the "second placers" MIND and TLC Diets, both landed on the same spot.
"Our rankings put hard numbers on the belief that no one diet is ideal for everybody, but the best food plans overall are sustainable," Angela Haupt, the senior health editor at U.S. News & World Report said. "Besides the ranking and the given data, each diet has a detailed profile that includes how it works, evidence that supports or refutes its claims and a nutritional snapshot-tools, which along with the advice of a physician or nutritionist, can help consumers invest in diets that suit their lifestyles and further improve their health and meet wellness goals," she added.
According to the report of News.com.au, DASH or known as the Dietary Approach to Stopping Hypertension was the top ranked among the other diets for six consecutive years. It received an overall score of 4.1 out of 5. The DASH eating plan focuses on healthy eating that includes whole grains, vegetables and lean proteins -- all designed to help control high blood pressure.
"The popularity of the DASH diet is fantastic, simply because it is basically a healthy eating plan that is user-friendly while also provides certain menu plans that you can tailor," Kristen Beck, an Australian nutritionist said.
Likewise, ABC News stated that the MIND or the Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay diet focuses on keeping the brain healthy. "Brain healthy foods include green leafy vegetables, nuts, berries, beans, whole grains, fish, poultry, olive oil and wine," according to U.S. News and World Report.
Tied on the second place for the overall best diet is the TLC or the Therapeutic Lifestyles Changes Diet. The healthy eating plan of TLC is aimed towards helping patients cut the cholesterol by lowering the "bad" LDL cholesterol by 8 to 10 percent in a matter of six weeks. It sharply cuts back on fat such as the saturated fat from fatty meat as well as those fats that are found in fried and whole-milk dairy foods.
