'No Bodies Perfect' a type of organization that is focused on providing support to people suffering from various types of eating disorders was launched in Edinburgh on July 1.
The charitable organization believes in the importance of bringing together people suffering from anorexia and bulimia as a means to create a support system that can help motivate them to treat their condition.
According to Anna West, one of the supporters of 'No Bodies Perfect', "people suffering from eating disorders do not usually know that they are suffering from something serious".
Anna discovered her obsession with counting calories and checking her weight on the scale as early as 14 years old. She lamented in an interview that "this obsession was borne out of my desire to eat the same amount of food as my friends would consume daily".
Later on, this obsession resulted to poor weight management and poor eating habits that caused detrimental impacts to her stomach and overall health.
According to reports, eating disorder resources in Scotland are very much limited, considering the fact that approximately 1.1 million people in the United Kingdom are affected with such condition; women being more susceptible to experiencing such compared to men.
'No Bodies Perfect' will provide not only support groups to people suffering from eating disorders but will also focus on providing support among people eighteen years of age and above who may be suffering from turbulent and unhealthy relationships with foods and their food choices.
Alexander O'Brien, the one responsible for setting up the charitable organization in 2010 said that "one of the biggest trials they are faced with is creating an awareness among countries and its people that eating disorder primarily exists and that if not addressed can cause physical, emotional and psychological trauma".
