The Canadian Cancer Society Held Successful Relay Event

The event was reported to be the organization's biggest event by far. The said relay took place on June 31, 2013 at the CFB North Bay where around 686 guests participated, 175 of which are cancer survivors, 300 of which are volunteers and

The participants were able to accumulate a total of 2.68 million steps and a total of $224,975 was also raised to help cure cancer patients in Canada.

According to Andrew Layne, Manager of the Canadian Cancer Society, the fewer number of teams in this year's relay did not stop them to gather much more funds than they did last year.

"Our fundraising team all went out of their way to help all 76 teams get more than what we needed", Layne said in a statement.

The fundraising events that took place prior to the actual day of the relay were all focused on teamwork. Layne said, "A lot of people had garage sales and barbeque events and there was even a team that hosted a dodge ball tournament".

The North Bay media, one of Canada's local media entities was also mentioned and thanked by Layne for their help in making the event not only possible but also very successful.

At present, there are approximately thousands of cancer patients in North Bay, Canada alone.
