Breast Cancer Risks Can Be Prevented through Fish Oil Consumption

Researchers confirmed that including fish oils to a healthy diet can help lower risks for breast cancer and other types of serious illnesses.

According to an article published on July 4, 2013 on the British Medical Journal, fish oil consumption when done on a regular basis can help improve a person's health and can lower risk for cancers, diabetes, kidney and liver failure.Among the 21 million participants who were studied showed roughly 14% of lowered breast cancer risk.

The said study was conducted in the United Kingdom where there have been reports that fish oil sources are scarce or is not included in a regular healthy diet.

In the article it was mentioned that 100mg dosage of fish oil per day can prevent around 5,000 breast cancer cases yearly.

The article also elaborates the relationship between breast cancer and fish oils saying that the latter serves as an anti-inflammatory. Cancer cells normally thrive in an inflammatory setting.

Fish oils are also well-known for decreasing the production of oestrogen - a leading cause of cancer when not in moderation.

Normally, one to two servings of fish per week is enough to provide the body with the right amount of fish oil it needs. The highest sources of fish include salmon, mackerel, herring and trout.

Finally, the article clarifies that Omega 3 ALA does not really have any protective effects in preventing breast cancer, contrary to what other studies and brands claim.

Vegetarians are also recommended to consume fish oil sources coming from algae supplements.
