As a clincher of clinchers for "The Walking Dead" Rick Grimes and the Alexandrian survivors walking through a throng of walkers at the end of episode eight of season six of "The Walking Dead" left a lot of bated breaths. The Feb. 14 midseason premiere of the "The Walking Dead," however, promises to knock the breath out of viewers and fans alike.
As ComicBook reports, "The Walking Dead" executive producer Greg Nicotero told Empire Magazine that the next half of "The Walking Dead: Season 6" is going to be very intense. "If you read the comic book, you know we're climbing towards a major death." Creator Robert Kirkman, in fact, tells Vanity Fair: "So many people die."
Bets are now being hedged as to which Alexandria character(s) will stay with the group and which of the main character(s) will bite the dust as the show reopens with The "Walking Dead: Season 6" midseason premiere. Dustin Rowles of Uproxx aptly nicknames the premiere the Valentine's Day Massacre.
To heighten the edge of the coming episodes of "The Walking Dead: Season 6," Rick Grimes and his group will relocate the scenes to the Hilltop Colony, sometimes nicknamed the "Negan territory". This territory is run by its shady, deliciously slimy colony leader Gregory, played by 'Nikita' actor Xander Berkeley. The group will then find themselves in a new base that bears no resemblance to Alexandria's idyllic pre-apocalypse setting. In Cinema Blend's description, it actually seems more like a larger version of Rey's Jakku hideout in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan's highly anticipated appearance as Negan with his very own group "The Saviors" will also debut in this period. International Business Times reminds that Steven Yeun's Glen - among others - will be in very real danger since in the books well-loved and public favorite Glen dies in the hands of Negan. So, viewers ask: will the TV version follow the "The Walking Dead" comic book version?
Kirkman is careful to reiterate that The Saviors and the Wolves are two entirely separate forces. In his description, however, they are possibly equal threats to Rick's peace of mind: "We'll be finding out a lot more about the Saviors, Negan's group, soon."
