David Bowie, who passed away last Monday at the age of 69 after 18 months of fighting liver cancer, was known all over the world as a great singer, songwriter, musician and actor. But what most people do not know is that the legendary singer was also a great father to his two children.
An interview quote shared by Telegraph in 2012 making its rounds again this week due to the death of the beloved icon shows the surprising changes the iconic music artist went through when he became a father.
"I don't have that sense of loneliness I had before, which was very strong," Bowie shares. "I'm very at ease, and I like it. I never thought I would be such a family-oriented guy. I didn't think that was part of my make-up. But somebody said that as you get older you become the person you always should have been, and I feel that's happening to me. I'm rather surprised at who I am because I'm actually like my dad."
According to Biography, Bowie's first wife was Mary Angela Barnett whom he married in March 1970 in Bromley, London. He had a son with her -- born on May 30, 1971 and named Duncan Jones -- who is now an acclaimed movie director with a filmography that includes "Moon" and "Source Code" as well as the highly-anticipated "War Craft". Bowie and Barnett ended their marriage in February 1980.
Bowie's second and last wife was the Somali-American model Iman whom he married on April 24, 1992. The couple had one daughter -- the lovely Alexandria. Iman was with the musician until his death and they were married for 24 years.
"He's just a wonderful guy and father and I think he understands that I'm a creative person in my own right," said Bowie's son Duncan Jones in an interview with Daily Mail. "He gave me the time and the support to find my feet and the confidence to do what I do."
It seems that David Bowie is not only a great musician but a great father, too.
