A new drama series is about to hit the CBS network and it is going to be a reboot of "Nancy Drew." The Hollywood Reporter said that it is still in development but there are already speculations of how it would be shown this time, which is far from what people know about it back in the 30s.
According to the network's president Glenn Geller, the main character for this story will be diverse. Geller didn't exactly explain his whole meaning when he said "diverse" because it is still too soon to tell. However, one thing he guaranteed is that the new Nancy Drew will not be Caucasian. He made sure that the casting is open to any race.
This new series is going to be worked with huge names in the industry of television like Tony Rater and Joan Phelan, who are known for their works on "Grey's Anatomy." Dan Jinks will also be among the show's executive producer and all of this information came right from the network's announcement back in October of last year.
For those who don't know the story of "Nancy Drew," it was a story originated from the brilliant mind of Edward Stratemeyer. It was a book that has inspired the creative minds of producers on TV who then decided to turn it into a show called the "Nancy Drew Mystery Stories." It is the longest-running TV series, as it lasted for 73 years.
All the lead stars who played the role were all white women even when it was used in the silver screen. The latest that played the part was Emma Roberts back in 2007. It is going to be a big leap for the character to not be Caucasian this time. It would also open a lot of doors for any ethnicity to try out for the casting.
