Several fans are now happy to have finally watched "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" despite the fact that many of them were confused after seeing Luke Skywalker expressionlessly glared at Rey while she was holding his lightsaber. Now, new reports claimed that George Lucas might be directing the upcoming "Star Wars Episode 9."
Movie Pilot shared that the blockbuster trilogy which started with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" by J.J. Abrams, has already hired the directors for its forthcoming sequels. The entertainment news website stated that Rian Johnson of the "Looper" film will be at helm with "Star Wars Episode 8" and Colin Trevorrow of "Jurassic World" will be directing the "Star Wars Episode 9."
The reports claiming that Lucas will take the helm for "Episode 9" is a product of a petition filed by a Brazilian "Star Wars" fan named Yuri Luiz. Change.org hosted the said appeal asking Disney to let the veteran filmmaker direct the final episode of the trilogy
"We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow, but he's not the right guy to direct Star Wars Episode IX," Yuri stated on his request. "George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy and make an epic farewell between the Father of Star Wars and the whole universe of the galaxy far, far away .... " He even added that he would want to see Lucas get involved with the "Star Wars" franchise again.
To recall, Lucas sold his own company Lucasfilm to Disney for $4 billion in 2012. He said, at that time, that he wants to let the younger generation take the lead in producing the "Star Wars" franchise and hopes that they could give it more flavors with their own innovations.
Slash Film reported that Lucas has completely left the entire franchise to Disney. However, he is not completely banned to participate in the creative process of producing the installments, which makes it more possible that he could participate in doing the upcoming sequels.
