According to Nameberry's list of 2013's popular baby names, the "Hunger Games" trilogy may be influencing more than just crazed teen fans.
Katniss, the movie's heroine, arrives at No. 10 on Nameberry's list of the top 100 most popular girl names on its site. The list is compiled based on the site's number of page views-over 8 million--from the first half of 2013, shining a light on the hippest names in pop culture.
Topping the girls' list is Imogen, a variation of the name of Kristen Wiig's character in July release, "Girl Most Likely," taking the spot of long-time favorite Charlotte.
Compared with Nameberry's baby name popularity list for 2012, the girl names moving up the charts the fastest are Merida, Clementine, Elodie, Eloise, Francine, Everly, Beatrix, Frances, Kinsley and Ada.
Popular culture is clearly having an influence on the list. Merida, the name of Disney and Pixar's heroine in "Brave," takes No. 16, showing a rising trend in the whole bows and arrows, tough girl persona. Plus, Clementine and Everly were names chosen by celebrities.
And the trend extends to boy names too. Asher tops the list of 100 names for boys, a spot he held in the 2011 popularity list, while Finn holds onto the No. 2 spot, but newbie "Django," the name of Jamie Foxx's character in the widely popular action-packed film, takes No. 4, in between Declan and James.
The boy names climbing quickly up the list include Flynn, Dashiell, August, Nico, Bodhi, Gray and Frederick. Thanks to the new Pope, Francis also made the list at No. 100.
We'll have to wait and see if Kim Kardashian and hubby Kanye West's daughter, North, or Beyonce and Jay-Z's baby girl, Blue Ivy, influence the list for the second half of the year.
