Austin-Healey Sprite: Toddler Buys $225 Classic Car With Dad's Phone (VIDEO)

A lot of kids end up with mom or dad's cell phones in their hands, but one Portland toddler went from playing to some serious purchasing.

Sorella Stoute, a 14-month old girl, successfully bid for a 1962 Austin Healey Sprite on eBay while playing with her father's smartphone last month. She was only discovered when her father received an email from eBay congratulating him on winning the $225 bid.

"She decided to open the eBay app, and started clicking around and one thing led to another and we own a car," Paul Stoute told KOIN News.

Stoute had been looking at cars on eBay as he was planning on a rebuilding project with a friend. The Sprite was located in Tualatin and is now being stored in Milwaukie at her grandparents' home. The eBay ad listed it as a "Frankensprite."

"It comes with two engines," Christina Stoute, Sorella's mother, told FOX News. "They're both in the back seat."

While the Oregon couple's initial reaction was panic due to not being able to afford the car, they decided to keep it as Stoute plans to give it to revamp it and make it a memorable gift for Sorella's high school graduation or 16th birthday.

"I've done a lot of body work in the past, like bondo and stuff like that," he said. "But this is another realm altogether."

Learning their lesson, the couple has added password protection to their phones, activated facial recognition technology and uninstalled all apps that can make a purchase as cautionary measures.

"I'm just glad she didn't buy the $38,000 Porsche I was looking at," Stoute said.
