Eating Fish While Pregnant Can Result To Smarter Children

There is a new study that shows pregnant women who eat a lot of fish would benefit a lot from it because their child would turn out to be healthier in the mind and even smarter, as they grow.

In a report published by Reuters, women who are expecting a baby on the way would have their children come out smarter if they would eat about three servings of fish weekly.

This new research came from Spain, and scientists who were involved in this have observed this experiment with over 2,000 mothers along with their kids from the time they were pregnant up to when their children turned five years old.

Based on their observation, mothers whose diet involved mostly fish while they were pregnant turned out to have children who have their brains improved by the time they reach five. The other mothers who didn't eat much fish during pregnancy didn't have the same result with their kids.

The head of the research team, Jordi Julvez said, "Seafood is known to be an important source of essential nutrients for brain development, but at the same time accumulates mercury from the environment, which is known to be neurotoxic." Julvez works at the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona, Spain.

It is healthy to keep a balance diet as well during pregnancy and this is why the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave out some pointers for pregnant women to follow as part of their dietary allowance. This includes fish in their diet but not having them go over 12 ounces a week.

Latinos Health concluded that mothers who are consistent with their diet and having fish as part of their meals about thrice a week would no doubt have smarter kids. If you are pregnant today, it is important to try this for your baby's future.
