Netflix's ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ Plot News, Update, Announcements: ‘How I Met Your Mother’ Star Neil Patrick Harris Is In Talks Of Playing The Role Of Count Olaf [VIDEO]

The 42-year-old 'How I Met Your Mother' actor Neil Patrick Harris is rumored to be in talks in playing the villain role of Count Olaf in Netflix's 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events'. Jim Carrey was the first one to play the role in a movie adaptation back in 2004.

Ever since the news of remaking 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' and a fan made teaser video were released, it has been a mystery to the fans on who will be the perfect fit for the antagonist role. To some people, Harris is known to have a comedic wicked acting skills based on his role in Joss Whedon's web series Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' follows that story of orphaned Baudelaire siblings Violet, Sunny, and Klaus, who were sent to live with their distant relative Count Olaf. Count Olaf has been eyeing the Baudelaire fortune that was left by their parents who died in a fire.

According to International Business Times, the Netflix version will be for "all-ages" because the original story was known to have a dark and chilling touch to it. The series is set to have 13 episodes - following the order of the books.

"On the search for fantastic material that appeals to both parents and kids, the first stop for generations of readers is A Series Of Unfortunate Events" Netflix's Cindy Holland said back in 2014. "The world created by Lemony Snicket is unique, darkly funny and relatable. We can't wait to bring it to life for Netflix members."

Furthermore, it has been reported that Mark Hudis was supposed to be the showrunner of the series; Hudis backed away from the project with no replacement up to date. Sources say that Brad Silberling who directed the movie adaptation would possibly step in.
