Microsoft announced on Tuesday its first Xbox One update of the year. Among the improvements are included a new Gamescore Leadboard, more social features like the ability to see before joining who's in a Party and improvements for the activity feed and Home screen.
Starting next week, the updates will reach Xbox Beta app and Windows 10 PC and will be available for the Xbox One Preview audience. The rest of the gamers will have access to the update next month.
According to PC Mag, coming with this update are highly requested features such as the ability to re-arrange Pins on the Home screen. Players will be informed when there is new content to see in the activity feed. The Xbox News posts will display now right in the activity feed. Mike Ybarra, Microsoft's director of program management, wrote in a blog post that the company's developers are focused on improving social features in order to help gamers to keep connected to the Xbox Live community. .
Another improvement is that players will be able now to see who else your friends are playing with when they are in a Party and check a friend's profile. This way gamers could choose to click the Chat button to join in. They could also access the new Gamerscore Leaderboard to see the biggest gains over a 30-day period.
In Community there is a new Friend Suggestions area so users can find more people to connect with. Microsoft is re-enabling a feature that allows players to hide content like apps, games, trials and betas from the "ready-to-install" list.
The new Xbox One update also makes easier the access to Twitch. In case that their friends are broadcasting, gamers can join the stream right from the game title or Game Hubs.
What some users feel it's still missing from this new update is support for background music. Microsoft's Xbox division head Phil Spencer declared on Twitter that users will still have to wait for background music for at least a few months.
