Mother Charged For Forcibly Feeding Children Bleach

A Seabrook mother was charged Wednesday for forcing her two children to drink bleach at their home about three weeks back.

The accused, Wendy Wright, was charged with two counts of first degree-assault. The police said that 33-year-old Wright, who stayed at 15 True Road, with her children, aged 6 and 7 forced them to drink bleach on June 18.

According to Seabrook Detective Scott Mendes, the police responded to a 911 call and found Wright unconscious at her home. She and children were immediately taken to hospital.

Mendes said that she should be held on $500,000 bail on each charge as she posed threat to the children. He added that she should not be allowed any contact to the children and their biological father.

The children were later taken to undisclosed location. Defence attorney Anthony Naro, said that such high bail was too much for Wright and the family and said it should be a no-bail hold.
"This case comes down to mental illness. Undertreated and perhaps undiagnosed mental illness," Naro said.

Judge Michael Sullivan, who conducted the arraignment through video, set the bail at $200,000.

This was not the first that a mother was accused of poisoning her children. In 2011, a 29-year-old Washington woman was arrested over the charges of blinding her toddler daughter with household bleach. It was unclear the reason behind to blind the kid. According to the doctor the how treated the child said that it could be because of Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome, in which parents abuse children by making them appear to be ill in order to gain attention for themselves.
