Cheryl Cole, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini Divorce: ‘X Factor UK’ Judge, Husband To Wait For Three Months Before Filing Divorce

Cheryl Cole and husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini has been plagued with several divorce news lately. Now, new reports claimed that the couple has to wait for three years before they can officially file for separation.

Mirror UK reported that the delay in the filing of divorce is due to the Grenadine law which prohibits divorce unless the pair has already reached three years of being married. Mustique Island, the home of Jean-Bernard, follows the said rule and only in cases of exceptional hardship, such as abuse and adultery, does the law allow divorce.

"The only way of circumventing the three-year rule is if you can prove exceptional circumstances," Attorney Stephen Williams, a partner in St. Vincent-based law firm Williams & Williams, stated. "The question, in that case, is what exactly constitutes exceptional."

Aside from the fact that Cheryl and Jean-Bernard have only been married for 18 months, the couple will have to follow the ruling as they were reported to having an amicable divorce. "It doesn't matter if you're the Queen herself - the law is the law," Stephen added on the marital laws in Mustique Island.

Up to this writing, no official word from Cheryl nor Jean-Bernard has been released yet. As a matter of fact, the "X Factor UK" judge kept mum on the issues since it spread like wildfire five months ago.

While Cheryl remained private about her married life with Jean-Bernard, former Girls Aloud co-singer have already confirmed that the couple's relationship is currently on the rocks. Sarah Harding recently appeared in the "Loose Women" show and hinted about how her friend is doing amid the divorce news.

The singer revealed that she has texted Cherly but got no response. She added that the singer-actress will be fine and she will bounce back since she is a strong woman.
