‘Jurassic World 2’ Release Date, Cast, Plot & Update: 'Han Solo' Candidate Nick Robinson Not In Sequel? 'The Impossible' Director J.A. Bayona May Take Over From Colin Trevorrow

Great news for all "Jurassic World" fans whose disappointment knew no bounds when director Colin Trevorrow had to switch from directing for "Jurassic World 2" to directing Disney's "Star Wars: Episode IX." "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard should be alright in the hands of Naomi Watts-led "The Impossible" director J.A. Bayona.

Director Juan Antonio Bayona, or J.A. to his Hollywood crowd, as Uproxx pointed out, did an impressive job with the grand-scale CGI in "The Impossible," movie based on the true story of a family caught in the 2004 Indonesia tsunami. The movie also featured "In the Heart of the Sea" actor Tom Holland and young Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor.

Deadline reports that Bayona's exit from Brad Pitt's zombie apocalypse flick sequel "World War Z 2", which is scheduled for a June 9, 2016 release, is what would likely make him a top candidate to helm "Jurassic World 2." According to Bayona, the main reason for exiting "World War Z 2," however, is his commitment to his latest film "A Monster Calls."

In the meantime, Screen Rant reports that Trevorrow hinted that "Jurassic World" will be a trilogy. Hybrid dinosaur Indominus Rex, which is a metaphor to depict the havoc that commercialization brings, will still be seen running around with Owen (Pratt) and Claire (Howard), but probably not so much with Zach (Nick Robinson) and Gray (Ty Simpkins). Does this mean Robinson can now put in more effort to campaign to become the next "Star Wars" Han Solo actor?

"We know Owen is going to be in it and Claire will be in it and neither will be in the same place that we left them in this movie. Even though Claire is the one who evolves the most over the trilogy, it's her story that mirrors this changing world, Owen has s**t to deal with," Tevorrow explains.

"The two of them opened Pandora's Box in 'Jurassic World' and each of them are responsible for different elements of it in different ways, and I think the way that these characters are connected to the circumstances of what's happening it's different than the previous films. It's not 'Let's manufacture a way to get them somewhere,' they're embedded into it now in a way that as story tellers makes it much easier for us to keep them involved and doesn't feel as contrived."

Despite shifting to "Star Wars: Episode IX," Tevorrow will still have hand in developing the Jurassic World sequel(s) with co-writer Derek Connolly. "Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to be released on June 22, 2018.
