Fast food gets a bad rap from doctors, health enthusiasts and fitness experts because of its being high in cholesterol and sodium, more so, low on essential nutrients. With that in mind, two chefs recently opened LocoL -- a fast food restaurant in Los Angeles that consumers might find delicious and nutritious at the same time.
According to a report from Vogue, LocoL was started by chefs Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson, with the purpose of providing customers with yummy but nutritious fast food. The restaurant's goal is to change how Americans eat by offering healthy and affordable fast food selections for various communities.
"If all you see growing up is junk food, fast food, processed food ... these things inform your decisions as you're growing up," chef Choi said during a 2013 food conference speech. "We made food as accessible as we possibly could, and we weren't even close. And that's when I knew I had to break this pattern."
LocoL's menu include dishes and snacks such as a burger made with grains and tofu, tortillas that come with beans and cheese as well as nuggets that are made of vegetables. Consequently, celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau have come out to support a "healthier fast food for America."
The best reason for supporting healthy fast food is to prevent the harmful effects of eating the traditional American fast food on a person's health and wellbeing. Hypertension, diabetes, obesity, headache, breathing difficulties, teeth problems, acne and depression are just some of the common harmful effects of eating fast food, according to Healthline.
"Want to improve your health and beauty and the well-being of your family? Steer clear of fast food restaurants and start redefining your family's idea of fast food," Huffington Post reported. For all you know, LocoL might just be the solution that America has been waiting for a long time.
